Uganda Hot Springs in Semliki National Park
This is an outstanding attraction found in Semliki National Park; Semliki National Park is located in the Western part of Uganda lying along the Albertine Rift Valley sprawling across the floor of the Semliki valley on the remote western side of Ruwenzori.
This reserve is dominated by the easternmost extension of the great ituri forest of the Congo Basin; this is one of Africa’s most ancient and bio diverse forests, one of the few to survive the last ice age.
Semliki valley contains numerous features associated with central rather than eastern Africa. Thatched huts are shaded by West Africa oil palms; the Semliki River is a miniature version of the Congo River; the forest is home to numerous central African wildlife species and the local population include a Batwa pygmy community that originated from the Ituri. As a result, this park provides a taste of Central Africa without having to leave Uganda.
The best way of reaching Semliki National Park in the western part of Uganda is by use of Kampala- Mityana- Mubende – Fort portal high way using a stable 4×4 wheel drive Safari Jeep; it’s about 387 kms from Kampala up to Semliki National Park. This park is characterized with green tropical rain forests, Savannah grasslands and Woodlands plus Swampy areas.
Semliki National Park is popularly known for its famous hot springs which include both Male and Female hot springs, these two hot springs have their unique name “Sempaya hot springs”.
The uniqueness of these hot springs is that there are characterized with unique feature of flowing boiling water which can be used for cooking unboiled eggs and bananas, that’s why most visitors from different countries including also people from local communities are very excited to visit these interesting attractions.
Witnessing this unique feature, you are not required to go with a sauce pan, burning fire but rather you will just drop your unboiled eggs and bananas into the flowing boiling water and just wait for some minutes well prepared to eat on these eggs and bananas.
Activities done in Semliki National Park include Nature Walk which involves moving in a group heading into the Jungle following the well-established routes and this is the best opportunity of sighting most of different touristic features in Semliki National Park which include big tree species, different bird species since it’s among the best bird watching sites in Uganda with different bird species which include African Jacana, Yellow billed stork, Warblers, Turacos, African barbets, Cuckoos, Barn-owls, Typical owls, Night jars, Swifts, Mouse birds, Trogons, Hoopoes, Wood hopoes, Ground horn bills, Horn bills, Bee-eaters, Rollers, Honey guides, Woodpeckers and more, other primates in the Jungle which include Black and White Colobus Monkeys, Vervets, Baboons, Red tailed Monkeys, Blue Monkeys and more, aquatic species like Hippopotamus, water birds and more, wild animals include Elephants, Buffaloes, Sitatungas, leopards, Kobs and more but rarely seen during some seasons.
